The University of Michigan agreed to pay $1 million to settle a lawsuit with a former dental student who claimed she was illegally kicked out of school.
The details are in a document obtained Friday by the Associated Press under Michigan's Freedom of Information Act.
The AP reported a settlement on Oct. 30, but the university and Alissa Zwick's lawyer had refused to talk about it, citing a confidentiality clause.
Zwick sued dental school faculty members over her dismissal and won a $1.7 million verdict nearly a year ago. The university was appealing the verdict when it decided to settle the case.
Zwick is getting about $675,000. Her lawyer, Deborah Gordon, is getting nearly $327,000. Zwick claimed her rights were violated when she was dismissed.
